The biggest airport in Madrid and Spain is Barajas International Airport (IATA: MAD), located at about 15-20 min drive from the city center. There are four terminals and the newest (terminal 4) is where most of the low-cost carriers land. There are flights to Madrid from almost any destination in the world. The airport has been opened since 1928 and is currently one of the most important hubs in Europe. It provides the gateway to the Iberian Peninsula and to Latin America. There are direct flights to cities all over the world, such as Dublin, Toronto, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Birmingham, Malta, Newark, Teheran, Oslo, Caracas, Philadelphia, Cairo and many more. A lot low-cost carriers, such as BlueAir and Ryanair, also offer flights to Madrid from other European cities.
Terminal 4 is hub for Iberia Airlines and all Oneworld partner airlines, while the other three terminals are hubs for SkyTeam, Star Alliance and Air Europa airlines.
The airport is well connected to the city center via Metro Line 8, which runs to terminals 2 and 4 (thereís a Ä1 supplement to the metro ticket to get to the airport), bus services and taxis (about Ä25). Terminals 1 and 3 are also connected to the metro as they are located at a short walk from terminal 2.
