The city's main airport is Brussels International Airport (IATA: BRU) which is located in located in Zaventem, near the capital. The airport receives flights to Brussels from Europe, Canada, USA, Africa and Asia, hence insuring connections to almost every corner of the world. Within the airport there are restaurants and shops, as well as ATMs, exchange offices and internet services. The airport is hub to Brussels Airlines, European Air Transport, Jet Airways and several cargo companies. As many as 260 companies operate on the airport. In 2005 the airport received an important award: Best Airport in Europe.
To get from the airport to the city center thereís a train running every 15 min to Brussels Nord. The fare costs Ä2.90 one way and the journey takes about 15 min. A bus also runs to the Place de Luxembourg, from where travelers can take either a metro or a bus to the city center. If you prefer to drive, you can rent a car directly at the airport.
Several low-cost carriers fly both into Brussels International Airport and Charleroi airport. This small airport is located at about an hour from the city center.
Since Brussels is the home to many European institutions, Mondays are particularly busy when it comes to air travel. Usually you are told to check in about two hours before the flight but if traveling on a busy day allow for some extra time.
